About HERA
An association for evidence, not slogans
HERA — the Human, Environment, Resilience & Accountability Association — is an independent, non-partisan not-for-profit incorporated on 27 October 2026 under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act.
About
Our mission
- To advance research and education on environmental sustainability and degradation, human rights, migration, displacement, resilience and accountability — including the relationship between environmental conditions and human migration.
- To conduct and support independent research, surveys and educational projects; to publish our findings; and to organise workshops, seminars, conferences and public discussions.
- To build public understanding of environmental and human rights challenges through evidence-based education, community engagement, interdisciplinary collaboration and the exchange of knowledge.
- To collaborate with Canadian and international researchers, academic institutions and not-for-profit organisations in pursuit of these purposes.
What we stand for
Independence
No party, government or faction sets the direction of our work.
Evidence
Every claim has a source. When we get something wrong, we correct it in public.
Human dignity
Displaced people own their stories. Their informed consent and safety are non-negotiable.
Transparency
Our funding sources, annual reports and governance documents are public.
Accountability
We hold ourselves to the standard we ask of others.
Independent and non-partisan
HERA is not affiliated with any political party or candidate, and does not campaign for or against any of them.
We speak plainly about public policy, on the basis of evidence. For us, being “political” means asking why and insisting on accountability — not taking sides.
We do not accept funding from governments or bodies that are the subject of our research, or from industries accused of causing environmental destruction.
